Pathway Programmes
To become a Dentist, you’ll need to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Dentistry. Dentistry courses usually last around five years and six if a foundation year is required. Dentistry is a competitive programme and students will need to demonstrate strong academic grades to meet entry requirements. Depending on the university you choose, students will need to pass either a BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) or the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT).

NCUK offers an international foundation programme where students will be able to progress on to a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Dentistry at the University of Bristol.
NCUK entry requirements:
  • Students will need AAA in their overall grades to enter the programme 
  • UCAT required
  • Must be 18 years of age or above to apply
   
The International Foundation Year lasts for 1.5 or 2 semesters which consists of academic subjects, study skills and English language training designed to help international students succeed and meet entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate course. 
Students who complete and achieve the required grades will be able to enter their first year of study at their chosen undergraduate subject at the university. 
To progress on to the BDS (Hons) in Dental Surgery, students will need to have achieved the following in their International Foundation Year: 
  • 70% in their overall grade 
  • English Grade: 80% with min 70% in all skills
  • Completion of the Discover Dentistry MOOC, Minimum 50% in School of Clinical Dentistry Enhancement Elements Assessment, SJT and UCAT
  • Minimum IELTS of 6.5 with no component lower than 6.0
  • Must be 18 years of age or above to apply
 
The International Foundation Year consists of academic subjects, study skills and English language training designed to help international students succeed and meet entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate course. Students who complete and achieve the required grades will be able to enter their first year of study at their chosen undergraduate subject at the university.

  • 70% in their overall grade
  • 70% in their overall English grade with no less than 70% SP and 60% SP in other skills 
  • UCAT test 
  • Successful interview
  •  Satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check or a Certificate of Good Conduct (if appropriate) and completion of an Occupational Health check (which may include vaccinations).
